Why? Why? Why? We go on deeper and deeper and deeper and deeper, until we reach the point where there is no answer. There is not even a question.

Nasruddin earned his living selling
eggs. Someone came to his shop one day
and said, "Guess what I have in my hand."
"Give me a clue," said Nasruddin.
"I shall give you several: It has
the shape of an egg, the size of an
egg. It looks like an egg, tastes
like an egg, and smells like an egg.
Inside it is yellow and white. It is
liquid before it is cooked, becomes
thick when heated. It was moreover,
laid by a hen."
"Aha! I know!" said Nasruddin. "It
is some sort of cake!"
The expert misses the obvious.

Prayerful Contemplation is the highest expression of our intellectual and spiritual life. This is life itself. This is life itself fully awake, fully active, fully aware that it is alive: life able to reflect on itself and recognize itself, see that it itself is life beyond the thought of life or a your life, my life, our life, even beyond the concept life or Life. This life is often what we, as myselves miss, in our entrapment in the complexities of what we have been led to believe is life. We become entrapped in an idea of life and seeking that life, which comes to blind and deafen us to the glory of life. A way to life becomes the end, not the means - we forget this. Life is, so needs not to be sought, unless to realize that it need not be sought. In some mysterious way, life is seeking you. Life is the ultimate obvious that needs no way or technique to be found. Simplification of mind and heart opens to this seeing, this knowing, that the obvious, ever-here-and-now life breathes through our breath, is the breath of our breaths. This most obvious is beyond uncomplicated or complicated, spiritual or unspiritual, or religious or nonreligious. This is what we could call a naked seeing, or knowing, as the garb of perceptions are known only to be secondary expressions, even while those garbs are seen as not needing rejection but to be seen through. Even the garbs arise from Grace, or God. Simply because something is not primary, but secondary, does not place it outside the expressions of the ever-creative Spirit. Life does not reject the expressions of life in its knowing itself; in life all these expressions are unified in the prior unity. And this unity is not, finally, something we seek or create, but receive and know as life itself.

For although it be good to think upon the kindness of God, and to love God and praise God for it, yet it is far better to think upon the naked being of God, and to love God and praise God for God-in-God.
